Summercore day 1

As I mentioned in my first paragraph, I really enjoy being part of this intensive course, although I must admit I did not benefit so much from the very last part; I was getting too tired to “absorb” the last pieces of information on websites and delicious. Hope to catch up tomorrow when my brain is rested…. this is a marathon, and for a beginner like me, it is a challenge.

Things that I really liked today:

the interactive teaching + variety of material presented

I could download pictures and a video, and post them on my blog ( I did not know how to do it before by myself)

I love the step by step methodology + particularly loved the presentation on margin markers and tab. Hope to have more of these presentations throughout the marathon…

Looking forward to tomorrow…

Summercore day 2

Today went by so fast! I had the feeling I was better adapting to the fast pace. I could feel I was geeting less alert around 4:00pm, but then our stimulating topic and conversation about copyright “woke “me up.

We started the day with the wiki site and I had a great time trying to look for pictures or videos; I must say I was proud to be able to add them to the site, thus participating efficiently to the wiki.

When I am in my classroom and teach my students, I can easily understand either the frustration or the pride they may feel. I never forget I am a student myself, with limited ability, when it comes to technology.

Language can also be a challenge at times, as I have to make an effort to pay attention when I am tired. In French, I “hear” words whether I am tired or not.

Anyway, the wiki session in our small group was very pleasant, and it is always nice to work with collegues who belong to other departments. + my mindset is very different from a scientific mindset, hence enriching my viewpoint. After a revigorating break on the sunny patio, we started our afternoon session.

Needless to say I loved Lynne’s presentation on Excel. She is an excellent pedagogue and has the ability to adapt the language to the level of her “students”. Since everything she was presenting was new to me, I learnt a lot. Hope I will be able to remember this very useful introduction to the various uses of Excel and share it with other collegues who are not having the chance to attend this great course.

A demain! Looking forward to it……

Bienvenue! Welcome !

Le Mont Blanc

Le Mont Blanc

This is my first blog post and I am so thrilled to attend the summercore session! The reading I did for Summercore involved 6 chapters. I like the interactive way of phrasing sentences.

This morning started with a refresher of words I had often heard and that I had not fully understood; it is so great when “the light goes on”!!!

Now we are training on adding images to our blog. I love when we have a step by step explanation; I was able to do it!! Technology has often been a barrier, and I do hope I will be able to understand a lot more to become more independant when I want to add technology to my lessons.
